hotel chic design DIYs seen on Home Made Simple | Mr. Kate
did you all catch the episode of Home Made Simple on OWN where i designed this living room space for the Walker family? i hope you did but in case you didn?t, good news because all the DIYs we did in this episode are on HomeMadeSimple.com!
BEFORE/AFTER of the living room back wall?
the homeowners Alesha and Danny wanted a ?hotel chic? feel where they could entertain friends ? so i chose a chocolate brown wall color with accents of burnt orange, coral, robin?s egg blue and cream to bring in a colorful yet classy theme. find out more about the color scheme on homemadesimple.com.
BEFORE/AFTER of the homeowner?s existing armoire?
i had our amazing carpenter Brooks, re-purpose Alesha and Danny?s old armoire by taking the doors off and adding a shelf to turn it into a bar/hostess station. we also painted it white and decoupaged the bottom doors. check out homemadesimple.com for all the materials and steps for this project!
i found this couch at the thrift store for $100 but it was white and a little dingy so we dyed it with Rit dye in the washing machine! see how-to on homemadesimple.com. the pillows are from Home Goods and Overstock ? i love the pairing of the pale blue with the zebra print.
the Walker family really wanted to display family photos so i took a few photos (on my digital camera) of their adorable family, printed them out and displayed them in white frames from Ikea. to make the frames stand out even more and fit in with the color scheme, we painted the mattes that came with the frames. check out homemadesimple.com for all the materials and steps to get this look! i also included the family?s hand-print art as part of this frame cluster.
the low wall used to be a planter that Alesha and Danny never used so i had Brooks turn it into a bar counter that can be used for entertaining or eating. see homemadesimple.com to learn how to do this too!
decoupage! you know how i love it. we used regular white construction paper and some craft paint with modge podge to get this look. go to homemadesimple.com for all the steps and check out my own decoupage coffee table here!
i found the globe at the thrift store for $10 and the vase for $4. they both brought in the blue accent color.
i love this paper lantern project to bring in light and a sculptural element ? and it?s really inexpensive! we hand painted the lanterns with a tribal print ? see how on homemadesimple.com
i hope you liked the episode! i?m in 4 more this season so keep tuning in to Home Made Simple on OWN, Saturdays at 9a/8c.
let me know if you have any questions about the episode!
