A cornhole tournament scheduled for Aug. 4 will raise funds for a Lexington man battling a rare form of cancer.

The First Kirkendall Cornhole Tournament will start at 2 p.m. in the Lanier's Hardware parking lot on South State Street. A bounce house, face painting and activities for children are planned along with the double-elimination tournament. Food and drinks will be sold on site as well.

Cash prizes are $300 for first place, $100 for second and $40 for third place. Raffle items will include a Richard Petty Driving Experience package, Carolina Panthers football tickets and many other items.

All proceeds will be donated to Chad Kirkendall, 39. He has lost his leg, half his pelvis and tailbone and is still battling the disease that has spread to other areas of his body. He is the owner of Kirk's Carpet Cleaning, a husband and the father of 2 1/2-year-old twin girls.

A Facebook page called Prayers for Chad Kirkendall offers updates on his condition.
