NYC TV news anchor arrested, accused of choking wife

Rob Morrison of WCBS-TV in New York faces charges of second-degree strangulation, second-degree threatening and disorderly conduct in an incident Sunday, Feb. 17, at his home in Darien, Conn.

Rob Morrison, an anchor for WCBS-TV in New York, was charged with attempting to strangle his wife after a weekend incident at their home in Connecticut, the station confirmed Monday.


Morrison, 44, of Darien, Conn., faces charges of second-degree strangulation, second-degree threatening and disorderly conduct in the incident early Sunday, the station reported. He is accused of attempting to choke his wife, Ashley Morrison, a reporter for CBS MoneyWatch. Ashley Morrison didn't need medical treatment, but she had red marks on her neck, police said.

Rob Morrison was free Monday on $100,000 bond and is due in court Tuesday, NBC Connecticut reported.?WCBS said it would have no comment beyond its news report.

In a statement, the Morrisons said they were "cooperating fully with the authorities to insure that all of the information necessary to properly evaluate this unfortunate incident is made available. The Morrisons are confident that a full review of this matter will show that the allegations have been greatly exaggerated."

Before joining WCBS in 2009, Morrison was an anchor and reporter for NBC 4 of New York and had appeared on NBC News' "Weekend Today" and msnbc TV.
